Who they are

The challenge

The animal farming and fishing industries cause untold suffering to trillions of animals every year, and alongside fossil fuels are a leading cause of the climate and ecological emergencies. Animal Rising argues urgent action is needed to protect all life.

The solution

The group campaigns for a just transition to a sustainable, plant-based food system — one that feeds a growing population on far less land, frees space for nature to recover, and lets animals live full lives free from farm suffering.

How they work

Bold, high-visibility campaigns to start a national conversation; supporting local people to push for 100% plant-based catering in influential institutions; and building alliances across the climate, nature and farming communities.

What they do

  • 2024 — UK's largest farm investigation

Investigators exposed the reality of 'high-welfare' RSPCA Assured farms and slaughterhouses, triggering an RSPCA investigation and resignations.

  • 2023 — Summer of Animal Rising

More than 100 people aimed to halt the Grand National, followed by actions at three more horse-racing events, an occupied dairy farm, rescues of sheep, and protests at greyhound tracks.

  • 2022 — Animal testing on trial

Occupied MBR Acres, a beagle-breeding facility for the testing industry, and helped 23 beagle puppies to freedom.

  • 2022 — Plant-Based Future

Blockaded dairy distribution centres across the UK, stopping milk supplies to supermarkets in the South of England.

  • 2021 — McDonald's blockade

Blockaded all four of the UK's McDonald's distribution centres, shut down their meat-processing facility, and occupied their flagship London store.
