Plant-Based Schools UK
The question is not if schools will go plant-based — the question is when.
Plant-Based Schools is a campaign to end the mandatory meat, dairy and fish requirements of the School Food Standards, bringing together the thousands of parents, teachers and students who already know we need this change.

Who they are
The issue
The School Food Standards (set in 2014) require meat on at least three days a week and fish every three weeks, and 'should' serve dairy daily. Plant-Based Schools argues these are outdated and that plant-based food is cheaper, healthier and better for the planet.
The evidence
69% of parents support more plant-based food in schools. The EAT-Lancet Commission calls food 'the single strongest lever to optimise human health and environmental sustainability on Earth'. UK vegan numbers grew from 160,000 (2014) to 1.1 million (2025).
Already happening
Over 7,000 schools across the UK have worked with ProVeg School Plates to increase plant-based options — an estimated 37 million meals changed so far. The first UK school went 100% plant-based in 2021.
